Vampire Academy and Bloodline series update: Adrian's diary

I have just finished re-reading the Vampire Academy and Bloodlines series a few days ago. It

was sooo good to return to the VA world. I tremendously enjoyed my stay there and was so glad that I also loved the spinoff series which I originally hated because I didn't like Sydney. Thought she was too boring but then re-reading the books, I realized I actually liked her in Blood Promise (where she first appeared as the Alchemist in charge in Russia).

This is my first to re-read books which I initially gave a DNF rating. I'm thinking maybe I'm gonna update my BL reviews. I haven't done any review updates ever so let's see how it'll go.

After reading all the 12 books, I visited Richelle Mead's site (used to be my favorite site for years!) it was surprising to find that she had written entries from Adrian's diary. To date, she gave us three entries, hoping she continues writing.

Adrian's diary :

Date: Springtime, sometime during the year Vampire Academy #1 takes place

Date: November, the year VA takes place

Date: December, Year VA Takes Place (posted in her Facebook page)

Also, based on FB Q & A, the author revealed that there is a possibility that she will write more VA books!

We're back on with the Facebook Q&A, starting with a very popular one: Reader Q: Do you plan on writing more Vampire Academy books?
Richelle A: Eventually, but there are no current plans to. I have no fixed dates, no concrete characters or plots that I'm going with. I have a lot of story ideas (that don't have vampires!), and so I'm going to be writing some other projects for a while. The break is good because if I ever do get back to VA, the ideas will feel fresh and exciting and not rushed. Some of the books I've been least happy with didn't have as much time as I wanted to develop them, and I want to do my best to always deliver good stuff to you guys. VA is such a fun and detailed world that I definitely want to revisit it someday--even if it's just short stories--but you may have to be patient for more!

Sweet! Looking forward to reading more VA books!

Book Review: The Golden Lily by Richelle Mead

The Golden Lily
Bloodlines Book #2

Author: Richelle Mead
Reading level: Ages 12 and up
Hardcover: 417 pages
Publisher: Razorbill (June 12, 2012)

My thoughts:

The Golden Lily is the book two to the Bloodlines novel, spinoff series of the Vampire Academy series.

Sydney. Oh boring Sydney *looong sigh* When I finished reading the book 1: Bloodlines, I was sad. So sad that I didn't get to like the book, and now after  reading the Golden Lily the experience was depressing. That feeling you wanted to love the book but you just can't! It took me months to purchase this book and when I finally decided to read the book, there was so much hope that Dimitri's appearance would somehow make the story interesting. Nope. No excitement in reading the story. Totally. I blame Sydney for all this. I see Sydney as the most boring character in all of Richelle Mead's books. Oh, add Jill to that.

Dear Adrian. What happened to you? I don't remember getting excited seeing you this time.  I loved you! What is wrong with you??!? I know you're still heartbroken but you don't have to be "lifeless" after Rose! And where did you learn those boring lines? Oh I know. Sydney!

Jill. I just can't understand why some people think you can be a lead character when I still see you as "jailbait", a KID. You're not like your sister Lissa. I know it's wrong to compare but I can't "feel" you! Your story is too superficial.

Another thing I noticed which made it harder for me to like the whole "Alchemist" thing was that half the story is about dealing with human thus labeling this as "paranormal" book is not at all right. Sydney made it clear that she doesn't want to see blood and magic. She also doesn't want to be with people who are considered as unnatural and evil (Moroi and Dhampirs)... I get it. So why is Sydney still the narrator of this series??

I couldn't connect with all the characters. Considering almost all of them are from the VA series, it felt like I don't know them.  Honestly I wished I didn't read these books at all! :=(

About the book:

I wasn't free of my past, not yet.

Sydney's blood is special. That's because she's an alchemist - one of a group of himans who dabble in magic and serve to bridge the worls of humans and vampire. They protect vampire secrets - and human lives. But the last encounter Sydney had with vampires got her in deep trouble with the other alchemists. And now with her allegiances in question, her future is on the line.

When Sydney torn from her bed in the middle of the night, at first she thinks she's still being punished for her complicated alliance with dhampir Rose Hathaway. But what unfolds is far orse. Jill Dragomir - the sister of Moroi Queen Lissa Dragomir - is in mortal danger, and the Moroi must send her into hiding. To avoid a civil war, Sydney is called upon to act as Jill's guardian and protector, posing as her roommate in the unlikeliest of places: a human boarding school in Palm Springs, California. The last thing Sydney wants is to be accused of sympathizing with vampires. And now she has to live with one.

The Moroi court believe Jill and Sydney will be safe at Amberwood Prep, but threats, distractions, and forbidden romance lurk both outside - and within - the school grounds. Now that they're hiding, the drama is only just beginning.

My thoughts:

This review is late as I finished reading this book a month ago. I was so disappointed with it that I couldn't think of anything good to write about the book. Ms. Mead's Vampire Academy is my favorite series, my all-time favorite, next to LOTR. However, this spin-off series was just bad. Let's start with the main problem...

Sydney Sage, the Alchemist. She's the narrator in Bloodlines and she is tooooo, how to say it? B-O-R-I-N-G! I don't know if it's just me but reading Bloodlines is like reading two boring books, or maybe three. It was a very very VERY slow read. Imagine, VA with Rose as the narrator and then to Sydney for Bloodlines? That wasn't a good choice!

As for the other (old and new) characters, they are also dull and my gawd, EVEN Adrian. I expected too much with this book, was very excited to read it because I love Adrian! I love Adrian but I love Dimitri more so I was really satisfied with the ending of Last Sacrifice. And since Adrian didn't get "happy ending" with Rose, I wanted Adrian to find happiness in this book but it didn't happen. Ms. Mead was supposed to write Bloodlines in Adrian POV and I thought Bloodlines would have been better if written in Adrian POV.

Plot? No plot.
The good part? Yay! Dimitri!!! ;) Now, that's the reason I'll be reading The Golden Lily.

About the book:

The first book in Richelle Mead's brand-new teen fiction series - set in the same world as Vampire Academy.

When alchemist Sydney is ordered into hiding to protect the life of Moroi princess Jill Dragomir, the last place she expects to be sent is a human private school in Palm Springs, California. But at their new school, the drama is only just beginning.

Populated with new faces as well as familiar ones, Bloodlines explores all the friendship, romance, battles and betrayals that made the #1 New York Times bestselling Vampire Academy series so addictive - this time in a part-vampire, part-human setting where the stakes are even higher and everyone's out for blood.

About the author:

Scorpio Richelle Mead is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of urban fantasy books for both adults and teens. Originally from Michigan, Richelle now lives in Seattle, Washington where she works on her three series full-time: Georgina Kincaid, Dark Swan, and Vampire Academy.

A life-long reader, Richelle has always loved mythology and folklore. When she can actually tear herself away from books (either reading or writing them), she enjoys bad reality TV, traveling, trying interesting cocktails, and shopping for dresses. She's a self-professed coffee addict and has a passion for all things wacky and humorous.

Bloodlines: First Teaser Trailer

Did you just hear Dimitri's voice? He's supposed to have deep Russian accent right? AND... he should look god... but he looks creepy in this video. I like Adrian though. Sydney looks okay and Rose? Not the Rose I have in mind.
